HUMBERSTONE GARDEN SUBURB
Leicester
Leicestershire
Humberstone GS was inspired by the ideas of Henry Vivian and adopted the same C0-parnership model as Brentham. Workers from the Anchor Boot & Shoe Production Society formed the initial management committee. The first houses were completed by 1908. Parker & Unwin had been consulted and recreational facilities and shops were included in the estate layout. However, the architectural design and road layout is more conventional in comparison to Brentham.
There is now little left of the original architectural character of the estate as modern window replacements and other changes to the setting have been made but the suburb still has a co-partnership management and a sense of community remains.
